Nukon has localized the laser cutting head, which was previously dependent on imports.
Nukon, the first fiber laser cutting machine manufacturer in Turkey, has achieved yet another milestone by localizing an approximately 20,000 Euro laser cutting head previously imported from Germany, driven by its own needs. With in-house software development, Nukon has successfully increased its localization rate to 58%. The company’s next objective is to produce the cutting head for all five axes.
Oktay Akyıldız, the General Manager of Nukon Lazer, announced that they have started mass production of the localized laser cutting head and will begin deliveries in August.
“The cutting head is the most critical component of the machine, holding a high added value with an approximate worth of 20,000 Euros. Even if all other parts of the machine are manufactured with utmost success, an inferior cutting head will compromise the overall quality,” claims Akyıldız. He further added, “We formed a team of six experts for our R&D project, which was carried out with the support of TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), and sought consultancy from a German firm. Our team worked diligently for about 1.5 years, and we successfully completed the project earlier this year. Presently, we are the sole manufacturer of laser cutting heads in Turkey.
The software is entirely proprietary to Nukon, and the design of the machine’s body was inspired by the existing model. By incorporating the cutting head, we have achieved a localization rate of 58%. Our current goal is to produce the cutting head for all five axes. We anticipate commencing production around 2018,” he stated confidently.
